As an international leader in ocean shipping, Fednav relies on a network of specialized subsidiaries that operate in several key areas. These include shipowning, short- and long-term ship chartering, ice navigation services, stevedoring at our terminals, and logistics services.
Fednav has been a pioneering presence in Canada’s Arctic for over 70 years, and now transports more than seven million tonnes annually from remote Northern mines. Its Arctic Operations, Projects, and Ice Services is responsible for managing Fednav's mining and resupply transportation activities in the Arctic and for providing support to enhance the safety and efficiency of navigation in ice. Additionally, it produces sea ice assessments and marine accessibility studies for current and projected shipping operations in ice-covered waters.
Fednav’s Shipowning and Technical Services Department oversees the technical management of Fednav’s owned fleet of more than 60 bulk carriers including its high ice class Arctic fleet, to ensure that all vessels are maintained and operated in line with Fednav’s best-in-class standards in a safe, environmentally friendly, and efficient manner.
